Germain Arena - Home of the Florida Everblades

 

Trip Notes: Flew into Tampa late Tuesday night. Found a hotel about 45 minutes south of Tampa on our way to Naples. Left pretty early in the morning to finish our drive down to Naples. Stayed at our friend Karen's house a couple nights. She has a beautiful home. Wednesday night I drove to Estero, FL to catch an Everblades game at Germain Arena. It was a short drive, maybe 30 minutes. Spent the first half of the day around Naples. Ate at a couple great restaurants that I recommend, Tommy Bahamas and Bricktop's. The BBQ pizza is to die for at Bricktop's. The next evening I drove 1 1/2 hours east to Sunrise. It was a pretty easy drive. Didn't hit much traffic until I got close to Ft. Lauderdale and it didn't last very long. Got to town a couple hours before the game so I drove around the city. Ended up grabbing dinner at Steak and Shake. I love their shakes! The game turned out to be much better than I expected. The Islanders put up a better fight than I expected so that was nice. I was very surprised with the amount of fans that showed up. They had more fans show than the Colorado Avalanche have had this year. Sad for the Avalanche, but good for the Florida Panthers. There were quite a few seats open up top so I was able to move up to the top row center ice. My favorite seat. After the game I got back in the car and drove back to Naples. I made it back around 11 so that wasn't bad at all. The game was well worth the drive! Then again, not many hockey games aren't.

Arena Notes: Germain Arena is another small arena. It's located right off the highway so it's extremely easy to get to. I didn't spend much time around the arena, but it appeared there's a lot of shops and stuff nearby. It seats 7,200 for hockey games so it was a little over half full. I don't think there's a bad seat in the building. My seat was originally on the bench side at center ice, but I ended up moving to the opposite side and up near the top. Most everyone likes to sit close to the ice ...not me! I like to be up high where I can see more of the game.
